Meta agreed to pay approximately $18 billion to settle claims that Facebook and Instagram encouraged compulsive use among children. The agreement would impose court-enforced limits on how its platforms engage teenage users, turning child safety from a voluntary design choice into a significant financial and operational obligation.
The same question of responsibility is emerging as AI moves into the physical world. Airbound raised $37 million to expand autonomous aircraft that could transform logistics, while Ukraine reported that a Russian drone using an Nvidia chip selected its target without a remote pilot.
Governments are also shaping how AI enters society. South Korea plans to provide every citizen with free access to domestically developed AI, treating the technology less like a premium product and more like public infrastructure.

Salesforce and Anthropic Launch āClaudeforceā
Salesforce and Anthropic have expanded their partnership with the launch of Claudeforce, combining Claudeās reasoning capabilities with Salesforceās customer data, workflows and governance controls. The first product, Salesforce in Claude, includes 37 prebuilt sales skills that can prepare meetings, assess deal health, review pipelines and update records using live business context. It is available to selected pilot customers, with an open beta expected in September 2026.
The partnership also places Claude inside Salesforce and Slack. Claude will serve as a reasoning model across Agentforce products and become the default model behind Slackbot and Slack AI. Salesforce will also provide Claude Code and Claude Enterprise to its developers and knowledge workers, while Anthropic has selected Salesforce as its preferred CRM and Slack as its internal collaboration platform. OpenAI Moves to End Cursor Partnership After SpaceX Acquisition
OpenAI plans to stop supplying its models directly to Cursor after the AI coding platform was acquired by Elon Muskās SpaceX for $60 billion. The company has proposed November 12, 2026, as the termination date and will continue providing Cursor with its existing models during the transition, although future models such as Astra will be withheld. Cursor has worked with OpenAI for nearly four years, but OpenAI models reportedly account for only around 5% of its traffic
OpenAI said Cursor had not breached its agreement. Instead, it invoked a change-of-control provision because it could not be confident that SpaceX would comply with its terms, citing previous contractual disputes involving Musk-owned companies. Cursor users may still access OpenAI models through personal API keys, the Codex extension or compatible gateways, although some Cursor features will not support these alternatives. Meta Agrees to $18 Billion Settlement Over Childrenās Social Media Addiction
Meta has agreed to pay approximately $18 billion to settle claims that Facebook and Instagram were designed in ways that encouraged compulsive use among children and teenagers. The agreements cover 47 states, Washington, D.C., three territories and a separate settlement with Texas. Meta did not admit wrongdoing, and the proposed settlement remains subject to court approval.
The settlement would introduce court-enforced protections, including a combined two-hour daily limit for teenage users, restricted access between midnight and 6 a.m., fewer notifications during school hours and stronger parental controls. Meta must also improve age verification, offer a non-personalised feed and restrict certain appearance-altering filters. Airbound Raises $37 Million to Reshape Air Transportation
Indian aviation startup, Airbound, has raised $37 million to expand its autonomous aircraft technology and build an aerial alternative to road transport. The funding will support manufacturing, engineering and the deployment of lightweight electric aircraft designed to move goods faster and at lower cost. Airboundās longer-term ambition is to create fleets capable of transporting both cargo and people.
Its first aircraft, the TRT, takes off vertically before transitioning into efficient fixed-wing flight. It can carry approximately one kilogram over a range of up to 40 kilometres without runways or specialised ground infrastructure. Airbound has already completed more than 700 medical-logistics flights with Narayana Health, demonstrating how autonomous aircraft could shorten delivery times and bypass congested roads. Source: TC

South Korea Plans Free AI Access for Every Citizen
South Korea is preparing to give its entire population free, unlimited access to domestically developed generative AI through its āAI for Allā programme. Three technology consortia, SK Telecom, Kako and KT, will provide services that help citizens book medical appointments, navigate taxes, search for housing and access government support. Beta testing begins in September, with a broader rollout planned before the end of 2026.
The government will provide up to 512 Nvidia B200 chips and help cover operating costs. Participating services must primarily use South Korean models, reflecting the countryās ambition to reduce dependence on American and Chinese platforms. With roughly $7.2 billion allocated to AI spending in 2026, South Korea ultimately wants every citizen to have a personal AI agent capable of completing public-service applications and supporting everyday economic activity. Ukraine Raises Alarm Over Russian AI-Powered Drones Using Nvidia Chips
A Russian drone reportedly guided entirely by artificial intelligence killed three civilians during a July attack on a petrol station in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine. Ukrainian officials said the drone used an Nvidia Jetson Orin computer to navigate by visual landmarks, recognise designated objects and select its final strike point without a remote pilot. The incident is believed to be the first documented case of a fully autonomous Russian drone causing civilian deaths.
Nvidia confirmed that the recovered component was a Jetson Orin, a consumer-grade module sold for commercial, educational and development purposes. The company does not sell the product in Russia, but it remains available through international resellers. Ukraine has also tested autonomous targeting systems, reflecting how both sides are using the war to develop weapons capable of operating despite disrupted communications and electronic jamming.
