AI is also becoming more commercially aware. Malachyte is bringing Spotify-style recommendations to online shopping, using real-time behavior to predict what customers want next.
But as AI becomes more capable, the rules are tightening. Japan has clarified that commercially cloning someoneās voice without consent may create civil liability.

Foundation Future Industries, a robotics startup backed by Eric Trump, has partnered with AMD to develop autonomous humanoid robots for industrial and military applications. The company plans to use AMDās Ryzen AI Embedded X100 processors in the Phantom MK-2, the next version of its humanoid platform. The financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Eric Trump has invested in Foundation and serves as its chief strategy adviser.
Foundation says its existing Phantom MK-1 robots contributed to the production of more than 24,000 vehicles in 2025. The company plans to open a factory capable of producing 5,000 robots annually in October, followed by another facility with capacity for 50,000 units a year. Industrial customers can lease the robots for about $100,000 annually, while military versions designed for logistics and reconnaissance are priced at approximately $300,000 each. Source: Independent

Microsoft Opens Its Largest India Data Center Hub as AI Demand Accelerates
Microsoft has launched its largest Indian data center hub, making the India South Central Azure region in Hyderabad generally available. The region gives Microsoft four operational cloud regions in the country and includes three availability zones, covering an area roughly equivalent to two Eden Gardens stadiums. It will provide lower-latency, resilient cloud and AI services for enterprises, startups, and public institutions while supporting local data-residency and regulatory requirements.
The facility is part of Microsoftās planned $17.5 billion investment in India between 2026 and 2029, following a separate $3 billion commitment announced in 2025. Demand is already growing, with Infosys, Cognizant, and Tata Consultancy Services reportedly holding approximately 50,000 Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses each. Microsoft is also bringing AI to government platforms serving more than 310 million informal workers and plans to train 20 million people in AI skills by 2030, as Google, Amazon, and domestic providers expand their own Indian infrastructure. Before committing, establish utilization thresholds and business outcomes that would justify the move, and confirm that the workload can be transferred to another region or provider if pricing, performance, or regulatory requirements change.

Cloudflare Launches Kitesurf, a Browser Built for AI Agents
Cloudflare has launched Kitesurf, a stateless, cloud-hosted browser designed specifically for AI agents. Unlike consumer browsers optimized for tabs, extensions, and visual navigation, Kitesurf prioritizes context management, token usage, performance, scalability, and cost. Developers can use it to build agents that navigate websites, extract HTML, capture screenshots, complete forms, and perform other browser-based tasks without maintaining their own browser infrastructure.
Built in 12 weeks, Kitesurf runs entirely on Cloudflareās serverless Workers platform and is available free during beta through Browser Run. Cloudflare says it consumes three to seven times less CPU and memory than Chromium for common agent tasks and already passes more than 215,000 web-platform tests. It combines Blitzās modular rendering engine, Firefoxās Stylo CSS parser, and the Rust-based Boa JavaScript engine. Source: TC

Malachyte Raises $10M to Bring Spotify-Style Recommendations to E-Commerce
Malachyte, an AI personalization startup founded by former Spotify employees Sidd Motwani, Ian Anderson, and Shivaditya Sinha, has raised $10 million in seed funding. The round was co-led by Bessemer Venture Partners and Googleās Gradient Ventures, with participation from Harpoon Ventures. The company will use the capital to expand distribution and recruit product and commercial leaders.
The trio previously helped build a similar platform that reportedly powers approximately 90% of Spotifyās recommendations to its 800 million users. Malachyte is adapting that approach for online retail through a ātwo-headed Vector AIā system that learns a shopperās general preferences while predicting what they are trying to accomplish during the current session. Instead of relying primarily on purchase histories, demographic segments, or customer accounts, Malachyte analyzes real-time signals such as searches, clicks, scrolling, hovering, and additions to shopping carts. AI Designs Functional Viruses That Kill Drug-Resistant Bacteria
Researchers from Stanford University and the Arc Institute have used the Evo 2 genome language model to design complete bacteriophage genomes from scratch. The team focused on a well-studied virus that infects E. coli, generated approximately 700,000 potential genomes, and selected 285 for laboratory testing. Sixteen produced functional viruses with DNA sequences not found in nature.
A combination of the AI-designed phages rapidly overcame resistance in two E. coli strains, demonstrating a possible route toward treatments for antibiotic-resistant infections. The viruses were designed to infect bacteria, not humans, animals, or plants, and the researchers excluded human-pathogen sequences from the relevant training data. However, biosecurity experts warned that the ability to generate functional viral genomes is advancing faster than the systems designed to govern or screen it. Source: CNN

Organizations using generative biology tools should review which genomes their models can design, who can access those capabilities, and how synthesis requests are screened. Require expert approval before physical production, maintain complete records linking digital designs to laboratory experiments, and prohibit work involving potential human, animal, or plant pathogens without appropriate regulatory authorization and high-containment safeguards.

Japan Clarifies Consent Rules for AI Voice Cloning
Japanās Ministry of Justice has issued interpretive guidelines stating that commercially using an AI-generated imitation of an identifiable personās voice without consent may violate existing publicity and personality rights. The guidance applies to individuals and companies and could support compensation or injunction claims when cloned voices are distributed or monetized without authorization. Examples include releasing music in a voice actorās cloned voice or using that voice to read obscene material for profit.
The guidelines do not create a new law, categorically prohibit voice cloning, or bind Japanese courts. Instead, they explain how existing civil law and the 2012 Pink Lady Supreme Court precedent may apply, with consent, commercial use, identifiability, and context determining liability. Separate guidance from Japanās Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry also indicates that developers could face exposure when a product is specifically designed and marketed to reproduce a named personās voice. At the same time, providers that can demonstrate verified consent and traceable licensing may gain an advantage as enterprises seek lower-risk voice technology.

Map the origin of robots, sensors, control systems and software used across planned automation projects. Determine whether any devices require FCC authorisation and whether future models could be affected. Organizations should also identify alternative suppliers, review cybersecurity controls for connected robots and model how higher equipment costs or retaliatory Chinese measures could change project returns.
