2024 to 2099: A Glimpse into the Future for Babies Born Today

Babies born today will grow up in a world deeply intertwined with intelligent machines. From 2024 to 2034, AI will be their constant companion, guiding their education and interacting with them from a young age. By 2040, at age 16, AI will drive their cars and assist in social interactions. In their mid-20s, virtual agents will handle both personal and professional tasks. By 2059, at age 35, their homes will be AI-driven, anticipating their needs. As they reach 50 in 2074, AI will play a central role in their careers and knowledge preservation. This Scientist Aims to Conquer Death by Replacing Every Part of the Human Body, Including the Brain

A U.S. agency focused on groundbreaking health innovations has employed a researcher with a bold and unconventional strategy to overcome death: replace every part of the human body, including the brain. Jean Hébert, now part of the U.S. Advanced Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H), is expected to spearhead a new initiative centered around 'functional brain tissue replacement,' which involves supplementing the brain with youthful tissue.. ALS Took Away His Voice, But AI Brought It Back

When Mr. Harrell tried to say the phrase 'What good is that?' for the first time, he was so moved that he broke down in tears. By the second day, the AI system could draw from a vocabulary of 125,000 words with 90% accuracy, allowing Mr. Harrell to speak sentences he hadn't been able to say in years. The device even recreated his voice authentically, using old recordings and interviews that researchers utilized to develop a deepfake version of his voice from before ALS. Ikea’s New Drones Will Work Alongside Employees in U.S. Warehouses

The Swedish furniture giant announced that autonomous drones would soon operate alongside workers in its Perryville, Maryland distribution center, where they began installing them this summer. These Verity-branded drones are equipped with an AI-powered system enabling them to fly around the warehouse 24/7, assisting with inventory counting and identifying misplaced items. LLMs Are Not the Path to AGI, Says François Chollet

Artificial general intelligence (AGI) has the potential to transform the world, but the timeline for achieving it remains uncertain. Current generative AIs perform well on benchmarks, but these tests can be mastered through memorization and do not necessarily indicate true general intelligence. To push the boundaries of AI, François Chollet initiated the ARC Prize, a competition designed to challenge AIs with tasks requiring abstraction and reasoning.". Source: Big Think.

A federal judge has allowed artists to proceed with a landmark copyright lawsuit against AI art generators like Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, and Runway ML. The case questions whether using copyrighted images to train AI models constitutes infringement or "fair use." This decision could have significant implications for AI companies that replicate artists' styles. In response, new startups are emerging to help creators license their works for AI training, signaling a shift towards more structured intellectual property management in the AI industry.

Hollywood Legends Revived: AI Voice Cloning Deals Open New Revenue Streams

AI voice cloning is bringing Hollywood icons back to life, with companies like ElevenLabs signing deals with the estates of stars like Burt Reynolds and Judy Garland. Using just 30 minutes of audio, these AI tools create realistic voice clones for use in audiobooks and other media. While this offers new income opportunities for celebrity estates, it also addresses concerns about unauthorized AI impersonations. However, the growing use of AI voices raises ongoing debates about consent, compensation, and the ethics of synthetic media, especially as AI becomes increasingly indistinguishable from real human speech. Humans Alter Behavior to Train AI Fairness

Researchers at Washington University in St. Louis discovered that people modify their behavior when they know they're training an AI, especially in scenarios involving game theory. In experiments where participants were told that their decisions would influence an AI’s future actions, they were more likely to reject unfair monetary offers, even at a personal financial loss. Interestingly, this behavior persisted even after the training sessions, suggesting that participants had internalized a sense of fairness, potentially impacting future interactions. This finding highlights a new way that human biases might influence AI training, raising concerns about how these biases could be embedded in AI systems. Source: Arc Technica
